13 CASTING THE PRESENT AND THE FUTURE (SO YOU WANT TO BE IN 13)
Dear 13 fans and future actors:
We are all disappointed that our run on Broadway will end on January 4th. Working on 13 has been a wonderful, fun and challenging experience for all of us. The world wide economic crisis has hit Broadway very hard and we are among many shows that are closing over the next months.
I know you have millions of questions and I will attempt to tell you what I know. I do not have all the answers yet but rest assured I will post all the information that I have. Please be patient, I have hundreds of messages that need to be answered and I hope I can reply to all of you in the next few weeks.
Will there be a national tour? The answer is simply, I hope so. There have been discussions but I do not have any definite information.
What will happen to the pictures and resumes that were sent to 13 Casting? We have all of them and they will be kept on file.
Are there auditions scheduled? Not now. If there is a tour or another production, I will post all the audition information here. I PROMISE there will be open auditions and you will have an opportunity to sing for us. But that is down the road and depends on what the plans are for 13.
If you have not seen 13, try to catch this amazing show and cast before January 4. If you already love the show, try to see it again!
I will post any new information as it comes to my attention and will continue to answer all of your messages. You are all great 13fans! Stay tuned.
HERE IS THE ORIGINAL INFORMATION- SO YOU WANT TO BE IN 13. I decided to keep it posted.
Part 1-
Hello 13fans. I am thrilled and overwhelmed by all of you who have contacted me recently about auditioning for 13. I am going to make this an ongoing chat and hopefully I will be able to answer most of your questions here.
I am extremely proud of this cast. We have put together a truly amazing group of teen actors and musicians. I am amazed by them everytime I see the show. They are also not leaving anytime soon. So why are we holding audtions?
If the cast is staying for a while why are we holding auditions?
It took us 12 months to find this group of actors and musicians. Some time they will leave 13 and we will need to replace them.
What ages are we looking for?
In general we are looking for performers 12-15 and musicians 13-18. The show is about 13 year olds and we hope that the cast is as close to that age as possible.
Is there a height requirement?
No
Are we seeking a multi-ethnic diverse cast?
Yes!
What kind of kids do you cast?
Talented. And that is really the answer. 13 is a very demanding show, requiring cast members to be super singers and actors and dancers. Skill at handling comedic material is also very welcome.
Do you have to be a member of Actors' Equity (the union for performers)?
No you do not have to be an Equity member when you audition.
Do you have to have an agent to get an audition?
No
I want to audition for 13 and I don't have an agent. What should I do?
Send a photo and resume to:
Mark Simon Casting/ 13
240 West 44 Street
New York, New York 10036
I do not have a professional head shot, what should I do?
Send us a recent photo.
I do not have a resume. What should I do?
A resume helps us to know something about you. Include your name and phone number.
We will only contact you on the phone. Include any plays or musicals you have done and where you have done them. Example:
Last Five Years Cathy French Woods Camp
Also include any classes or projects you have done at school, camp, after school programs,
shows in your community and of course any professional shows, Let us know if you have done any TV, movies or commercials. Let us know if you play an instrument VERY well.
How can I get an audition?
I will be setting dates for auditions soon. They will probably be in November. As soon as the dates are set I will give you all the information you need right here. Keep checking back. We will be holding an open call. That means, I give you the date and the location and the sign in time. We will then see you in the order you sign in. So people who sign in first will be seen first.
Wait, I have a million more questions. Should I write to you?
Please hold your questions for now. I will be writing several more parts to SO YOU WANT TO BE IN 13. I think most of your questions will be answered, if you continue to read this post.
How can I begin to prepare for my audition?
SEE 13 on Broadway. You will see the best musical in New York and you will see who got
hired.
A favor.
I am not a great typist so please forgive me if there are typos in this post. I never took typing lessons. I was too busy seeing musicals.
End of Part 1-
Part 2- What do I prepare for my 13 audition?
I really hope this is helpful. Mark

I saw somewhere that a tour might begin in winter 2009. Is a tour still even in the works? No one has said anything about updates and touring since the show closed. When I'm on this site, even, I feel like I'm in a dead zone... like "I Am Legend" or something... but please, let me know if it's still even being considered. I would really like to audition. This is a fabulous musical, and it deserves to been seen across the nation. Thanks so much!
omg i think this is a greatttttt great great idea about he tour!
i realllllly really want to audition so can you please keep me posted about the tour???
thank you so much!
on some websites it says that it happened
I was wondering if there actually is going to be a tour? Please let me know.
Thank you.
